So I bet you want to ask: what the heck do you mean "inspired by racing, fueled by donuts?" Great Question!
How it started
So awhile back, a youtuber's camerman that I follow started streaming his iRacing sessions on twitch as well, he and some partners have an actual race vehicle called "Donutpassme" they run in the 24 hours of Lemons. Yes Lemons like the fruit. Being broke, I didn't have money to donate, so I created a "Race support" tee and the proceeds from the sales would go to the team. From there, I expanded to donut themed ideas and more. Check out @ebutka and @donutpassme iRacing and 24 hours of lemons
How is racing the inspiration
Now I have loved raqcing since the day I was conceived. No, really. That day, my parents where in northern California doing a RallyCross race, and in between stages........ In high school, I became obssesed with Indycar and wanted to go to school to study race telemetry. I picked the wrong school, and just became a computer field tech. Shortly thereafter, I learned website building. this was in the mid 90's.
In 2001, I launched a fan site that started as a fun thing between friends and quickly blew up so much, the artist the site was for became a fan, and endorsed my site exclusively on his website. Most wouldn't remember, but the site was called "Jasonites.com" and the artist was Jason Newsted, most noted as the former bass player for Metallica. I started making merch and even Jason sported a jasonites.com tee.
Fast forward to 2020. my buddy was working as a dumptruck driver hauling asphault. His boss gave gime a brand new truck and jokingly, us being southern california proper rednecks and all, said to me "I wonder what my truck would look like painted like the General Lee". So. I showed him. (I'll save y'all the misery) He liked it - and proceeded to ask if I can create stuff. I said, like what? He shared me the brief details about another company's truck being bright green and he nicknamed their truck "Lil Moco". He sent me a pictute of the truck and I proceeded to do some magic to it... Made it look slammed, with tucked chrome rims, put some lok's and a green bandana on it. On the front bumper it had a ol' time bushy moustache. On the bed of the truck, I made a booger look like it was riding the control arms (for the canopy). After I sent it to my friend, he said they only had one thing to say: "can you make one for grandpa too - he owns the company" - in which I made the moustache white. I had never met them. They were not of Mexican decent, and having never met them, I nailed the moustaches exactly. Using a POD "Bonfire" I created some merch and "Because Dumptruck" was formed. I took pictures of the actual trucks people used and manipulated them into whatever. My friend started collecting custom design requests, and all would have been well except my friend left the company abruptly and the orders never went out.
